New Library Service

11 July, 2008

Brisbane City Council introduced a new service called FastBack in Council Libraries.

FastBack provides readers with latest releases so long as they return the book in seven days and to the Library where they borrowed the book. No extensions on the loan are allowed and it is not possible to put a FastBack book on hold.

“This is a great service’ said Cr Helen Abrahams

“Many readers have no trouble reading a book in a week.”

FastBack will overcome the problem of borrowing a popular new releases. In the past, there would be waiting lists of over 100 readers yet the book could be borrowed by one reader for up to 8 weeks.

The delays in getting new releases was a real problem for regular customers’ said Cr Abrahams

‘I know the members of my book club will use this service’ said Helen Abrahams

‘The idea was brought back to Brisbane from an overseas study tour.’
