Lord Mayor Cuts Public Transport Service

27 May, 2008

The Lord Mayor has cut the Personalised Public Transport scheme for Kangaroo Point.

Personalised Pubic Transport system was a Lord Mayor’s election promise in 2004. The system was introduced in September 2006 as a service to local shopping centres.

The PPT service was a maxi-cab travelling on a set route to provide shared travel to shops along Lytton Road.  It ran 30 minutely from 10 am to 4 pm through the suburbs of Kangaroo Point, East Brisbane and some parts of Woolloongabba.

“The route was indirect as it wound it way through three suburbs” said Cr Abrahams

“The route was flawed in my opinion. It did not go to a major shopping centre and the route was too long” said Cr Abrahams

“I offered a modified route that would link residents to the new Coles at Gabba Central” said Cr Abrahams

“However the Lord Mayor remains adamant that the service will be cut”

“I believe this action shows a lack of his commitment to public transport’ said Cr Abrahams

“Rather than asking residents what they want, the Lord Mayor is cost cutting to fund his major tunnel projects” said Cr Abrahams
