The Dutton Park Ward Park Trust Fund will deliver almost $100,000 for an upgraded playing field at J.F O’Grady Park, Fairfield, local Councillor Helen Abrahams said.
“The refurbishing of the sports field will be part of measures aimed at drought-proofing the fields,” she said.
The grant of $99,900 will be used to install an irrigation system and level the fields, as well as lay topsoil and turf the fields.
“The area is always in use. Every night one of the clubs uses the field, and a number of sports are played here on weekends.
“I congratulate Mr Ian Irwin, Chairman of the Brisbane Rugby League Referees Club for his tireless work for these improvements,” she said.
The Brisbane Rugby League Referees Club, the leasees, have also received a Commonwealth Grant for the installation of rainwater tanks to assist with irrigation.
J.F O’Grady park is also used by the East Hockey Club, Somerville House, Premier Touch, City Touch and the Queensland Development Squad of the Brisbane Rugby League Referees.
