Junction Park to get Active!

09 November, 2007

Local Councillor Helen Abrahams congratulates the Junction Park State School for their success in being selected as part of the 2008 Active School Travel program.

“I am delighted Junction Park State school will be part of this very successful program in 2008,” Cr Abrahams said.

The Active School Travel Program (AST) aims to reduce traffic congestion around schools by encouraging students to walk, cycle, car-pool or use public transport.

Other benefits of the program for students include improving health, fitness, and safety.

“For last year’s schools, we saw the average number of car trips decrease by 15.1%,” Cr Abrahams said.

“During this year, we have seen 10 schools in the program record more than 50 per cent of children using sustainable modes of transport on Walking, Wheeling, Wednesday to travel to school.

“I look forward to working with Junction Park State School next year to achieve even better results in this successful program,” she said.
