Six new Habitat Brisbane groups will join in restoring natural habitat and fighting weeds in Brisbane’s bushland and waterways, Environment and Sustainability Chair Helen Abrahams said.
“I would like to welcome the 6 new groups into Council’s very successful Habitat Brisbane program,” Cr Abrahams said.
“The groups will received basic training in bush regeneration at the annual Habitat Brisbane Induction Day on October 21.
The new Habitat Brisbane groups include:
Carmichael Park, Tingalpa
Carseldine Bush Crew, Carseldine
Cowan Cowan Habitat Group, Moreton Island
Horizon Drive, Westlake
Nicholas Park, The Gap
Wandering Weeders, Chapel Hill
“I really commend the valuable work performed by the 120-odd Habitat Brisbane groups.
“In the 05/06 financial year, more than 2,500 volunteers helped rehabilitate about 108 hectares of land – which is about 96 football fields.
“Volunteers also removed more than 6,700 m3 (96 truckloads) of weeds and helped rehabilitate more than 38 kilometres of waterways.
“I look forward to even better results in the 06/07 annual report,” she said.
