Ewaste for Recycling

22 October, 2007

Local Councillor (Dutton Park) Helen Abrahams is calling on City South News readers to put aside unwanted electrical items for this weekend’s electronic waste recycling day.

“Items such as old mobiles, laptops, monitors and keyboards can be dropped off for recycling this weekend free of charge from 9am until 4pm at various locations across Brisbane,” Cr Abrahams said.

“Typically, e-waste contains a range of toxins, including lead and mercury, which are hazardous to humans and the environment – so e-waste should not be put in green wheelie bins or landfill.

“More than 95 per cent of every computer, for example, can be recycled and used to make other products.

“At last year’s e-waste collection day, more than 50 tonnes was collected.  This meant 50 tonnes of electronic devices were diverted from our landfills.
