Funding approved for Green Projects

14 May, 2007

Civic Cabinet today approved more than $85,500 worth of grants to non-profit community-based groups who address local or city-wide environmental issues, Environment and Sustainability Chair Helen Abrahams said.

“I am delighted that local environment groups will be receiving this financial support from Council,” Cr Abrahams said.

“Most of these groups are staffed by hard-working local volunteers who are quite passionate about enhancing Brisbane’s sustainability and livability.

“I would like to congratulate the 19 groups who will receive grants for either local or city-wide issues.

“I would urge all environment groups who need some assistance with their projects to register for next year’s grants when they are advertised.

“Your local Councillor will advise of relevant dates for next year’s round of grants as soon as they are available, and also give advice on ways to make your grant application successful,” Cr Abrahams said.

Organisations that will receive funding in this round for city-wide projects include:

Ø Birds Australia Southern Queensland – funding for the production of a quarterly newsletter.

Ø Birds Queensland – funding to run bird walks in Brisbane’s bushland areas.

Ø Queensland Conservation Council – funding for a series of presentations to the community on a “Greenhouse Reduction Plan for Queensland”.

Ø SCRUB Catchment Care Group Inc – funding for administrative support, including production of a newsletter, workshops and seminars.

Ø Moreton Bay Environmental Alliance – funding for the production of a newsletter and administrative support.

Ø Brisbane Catchments Network – funding for a celebration event for schools that are involved with community catchment groups.
