South Brisbane residents are using the smallest volumes of water in Dutton Park Ward, with an average of 345 litres per day per household, local Councillor (Dutton Park) Helen Abrahams said.
The suburbs of Tennyson and Yeronga have recorded the highest reductions in water use since the beginning of the drought – with these suburbs saving almost 51% and 44% respectively.
“There has also been a significant reduction in water use at industrial premises in the last two years,” Cr Abrahams said.
Leading reductions in water use across the city include:
· Childcare Centres from 464 kl/day to 271 kl/d
· Licensed Clubs 421 kl/day to 264 kl/d
· Single Shops 638 kl/day to 446 kl/d
· Cemeteries 204 kl/day to 32 kl/d
· Defence Force Establishments 284 kl/day to 18 kl/d
· Educational facilities 10,963 kl/day to 4,564 kl/d
· Religious facilities 950 kl/day to 476 kl/d
“These results are great, and we can still do more to meet the residential target of 140 litre per person per day.
“70% of water consumption is in residential properties, so the target of 140 litres will deliver water savings.”
