Community Call for Clean Up Australia Day

15 January, 2007

Councillor Helen Abrahams is calling on Dutton Park residents to eradicate litter by nominating a site to clean on the annual Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 4 March.

She says residents could easily make a difference to Brisbane’s environment by sacrificing a few hours on Sunday 4 March to clean a site they use frequently and enjoy.

“Clean Up Australia Day provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to take pride in our beautiful city and pitch in to clean up together,” Cr Abrahams said.

“Removing litter from parklands, creeks, rivers, beaches and roads improves the health of Brisbane’s waterways, wildlife and aesthetic image, which leads to increased tourism and economic benefits.

Residents need to register their preferred clean-up site with Clean Up Australia Day organisers to ensure that volunteers clean different Brisbane locations.

Volunteers can register a site at www.cleanup.org.au/register or by calling 1800 CUA DAY (1800 282 329)
