Rainwater Tanks Saturate Dutton Park Ward

23 February, 2007

Nearly 650 households in Dutton Park Ward have received a Council rainwater tank rebate since 2002, local Councillor Helen Abrahams said.

Cr Abrahams applauded the community and said the rebates amounted to almost $478,000.

\"It’s great to see local residents are water smart, and implementing water saving and re-use techniques around their home.

Across the city, Council has paid more than $16m in rebates to nearly 24,500 households since the inception of the rebate program in 2002, Cr Abrahams said.

Some key benefits of rainwater tanks include:

§ reduced demand on the city’s piped water system and volume extracted from our rivers
§ reduced stormwater run-off that can cause local erosion and flooding
§ improved water quality in local creeks and waterways savings on water bills

Last financial year, minimum tank sizes for the $750 rebate were increased from 3000L to 5000L and minimum tank sizes for the $500 rebate were increased from 1000L to 3000L.
