Residents have been told that the CityCycle bike station will be installed in Lower River Terrace in spite of their strong objections.
Kate Cridland, resident of South Bank apartment, is angry that Council is persisting with the bike station at this location.
“Council officers undertook consultation with residents one evening in July. I attended the meeting and not one resident supported the bike station in Lower River Terrace” said Kate Cridland.
“In fact the officers on the night agreed with us that the number of cyclists, the reverse parking, the number of drivers doing three point turns to find parking spaces makes this stretch of road dangerous for cyclists” said Kate Cridland.
“As a local resident, I have seen a number of crashes and near misses with cars and cyclists. It is madness to put bikes to be ridden by inexperienced cyclists in this busy street” said Kate Cridland.
“We need to keep all the parking in this street as there is a constant demand for parking from people who wish to enjoy the views and recreational facilities in this stretch of the River”
“What makes me really angry is that the Council officer told us the CityCycle bike station would be installed while she was writing down all our objections”
“We now have less parking with a failed bike scheme taking parking spaces.”
