Local Councillor Helen Abrahams welcomes local residents to the official opening of the full-sized basketball court in Yeronga Memorial Park on Sunday 18 February, at 4:00pm.
“The basketball court was identified by local African youth as a much needed facility for their community,” Cr Abrahams said.
“The Sudanese Police Liaison Officer asked for a full-sized basketball court on their behalf last year.
“I am delighted we have made it possible to install the full-sized court, as there are limited numbers of such courts in parks in Brisbane.”
The immediate past school captain of Yeronga State High School, Mr Luke Barbagallo will open the court.
“We will be holding a demonstration game between the Yeronga State High School team and an African Youth Team, which I encourage local residents to come and watch,” Cr Abrahams said.
“A volunteer from the Queensland Basketball Association will also referee on the day.”
Players are welcome to register at 4pm and light refreshments will be provided on the day.
