Councillor Helen Abrahams, The Gabba Ward calls on the Lord Mayor to ensure the needs of all current CityCat patrons are met during the upgrade to the West End CityCat Ferry Terminal.
Although the upgrade is still months away, local residents are raising their concerns with me.
West End resident Willie Prince has special transport needs and he has told me that he can not use the proposed alternative transport service.
Mr Prince’s mobility scooter can not ride on a Council bus. As a bus service is the only alternative transport offered by Council while the CityCat is out of action, Mr Prince is potentially left without transport.
“This issue must be addressed immediately” said Cr Abrahams.
“I have written to Cr Margaret de Wit, Chairperson Public and Active Transport, seeking an answer to Mr Prince’s dilemma. I believe Mr Prince must be advised as soon as possible of Council’s solution to his transport needs” said Councillor Abrahams.
“I am sure Mr Prince has the support of the other CityCat patrons. In addition other patrons are concerned that the bus service will be longer and less reliable. The frequency of the buses should maintain the existing level of service.”
The Lord Mayor should give a commitment to provide a “like with like” service during the upgrade of the CityCat Terminal.
End.
