Cr Helen Abrahams, The Gabba Ward, welcomes the refurbishment of the Clem 7 project office into a vibrant, two storey Multicultural Centre for Brisbane.
The rather drab building on the corner of Ipswich Road and Dibley Street, Dutton Park will be home to Multicultural Development Association and QPASTT. These two associations play an important role in the lives of new refugees and migrants in our City.
The Brisbane Multicultural Centre will have space for a coffee shop, an area called the International Workers Space as well as office space for Brisbane City Council officers working with refugees. Short term project teams could be able to work from this Centre as well.
“The Centre will have greater flexibility to meet the needs of their clients by the proposal to co-locate in one Centre” said Helen Abrahams.
“The creation of small business enterprises by refugees for refugees is likely to arise from this Centre.”
“It is a great initiative. I know this announcement is a relief for staff of the Multicultural Development Association as their service must relocate from Stanley Street to make way for the Brisbane Childrens Hospital’ said Helen Abrahams.
