New world development with no trees

21 May, 2010

The Gabba Ward Office has been fielding complaints from local residents about the removal of trees on the development site at 33 Vulture Street, West End.

“The loss of these trees is symbolic of the changes ahead with the South Brisbane Riverside Neighbourhood Plan” Cr Abrahams said.

“It was only as the chainsaws were cutting down the trees, that everyone realised how many trees were on the old Thor Gym site.”

“The approved development application retained only one tree on the site at the corner of Paris Street.”

In spite of all the rhetoric from the Lord Mayor about keeping the village atmosphere and retaining the character at West End, one of the first developments in the heart of West End creates a hard, new world concrete exterior to the street”.
