Budget Priority for traffic lights in Montague Road

05 May, 2010

Parents of children of local school and  Cr Helen Abrahams are lobbying to have traffic lights installed in Montague Road to provide safe pedestrian access to Davies Park.

“I have requested funding of the Montague Road traffic lights for two years in a row. During that time, the need for the lights has increased” said Helen Abrahams

“The West End State School students use Davies Park for their sport days and so need a safe crossing of Montague Road’ said Helen Abrahams.

“Thousands of pedestrians spill across Montague Road each Saturday to go to the West End market. The Jane Street and Montague Road intersection is chaos at this time with cars, cyclists and pedestrians all making their way to the Market.

“.Patrons of new CityGlider bus service are calling for traffic lights so they can safely cross to the bus stops.

“The reality is there are more pedestrians wishing to cross and more vehicles using Montague Road each year making safe crossing for pedestrians more and more difficult.

“Funding of the installation of traffic lights in Montague Road is my priority for location of traffic light projects in The Gabba Ward in the 2011-12 Budget” said Cr Abrahams.
