Helen Abrahams, Councillor for The Gabba Ward calls on The Lord Mayor to release monthly patronage figures for the CityGlider bus service.
“The Public & Active Transport and Economic Development Committee, chaired by Cr Jane Prentice, should receive a monthly report on City Glider patronage” said Cr Abrahams
The CityGlider provides a 15 minute service from West End Ferry Terminal to the City and New Farm between 11.30pm and 5.30am. These times are not covered by the existing 199 bus service to and from the same terminus but travelling along Boundary Street, West End.
“The buses travelling between 11.30pm and 5.30am will bring night time noise and disturbance for local residents in Hill End’ said Cr Abrahams
“These residents have a right to know how well used are these night time buses.”
“The liverage on the windows means no one can see how many people are on a bus” said Helen Abrahams
“They want to know if the loss of their quiet nights is warranted and should judge it by the number of people using the CityGlider service” said Cr Abrahams
The 199N service already provides an early morning service as it runs every hour on the hour on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 1 am to 5 am.
Labor Councillors wish to know the patronage figures as there are still bus routes leaving passengers at the bus stops due to overcrowded buses.
“Increased in services on these routes should not be comprised by the new CityGlider service with few or no passengers” said Cr Abrahams
“After all the Lord Mayor’s 33 000 residential population for West End and South Brisbane are not yet living in the West End Peninsula so the CityGlider may be running empty in the early hours most mornings.”
