Councillor Helen Abrahams, The Gabba Ward welcomes further measures by Council to identification of street trees in development assessment process.
I have lobbied for development application to show existing street trees so that the species, the size and location of the trees is considered as part of the development assessment.
I am advised that in the future development applications lodged electronically must identify and provide information on street trees for a ‘well made’ development application.
I know of incidences where street trees have been removed so the new approved building can be constructed. Another problem has been the siting of swimming pool immediately below a street tree that constantly shed small leaves leaving a major problem for the property owner.
If more attention had been given to the street trees in the first place, the need for removal or pruning may have been avoided. It is too late once the plan has been approved.
“I am delighted by have played a role in this outcome” said Cr Abrahams
