Local Councillor for The Gabba Ward, Helen Abrahams is urging local residents to once again support Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, 7 March 2010.
“Clean Up Australia Day is a great chance for us to come together and clean up our community and help preserve our local environment,” Councillor Abrahams said.
“I encourage all local residents to get involved by either setting up their own clean-up site or by volunteering at an established site.
“Last year, hundreds of volunteers dedicated their Sunday morning to help keep The Gabba Ward clean and green and I hope to see a great turnout this year too.
“A number of local sites are already registered, including Orleigh Park West End, Moorhen Flats along Norman Creek at Woolloongabba and Coorparoo Creek, Coorparoo. Buranda State School and Brisbane State High School will be hard at work on 5th March.
“You can either register your own site online at http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/ or sign up to volunteer at one of the already-registered sites.
“Schools and businesses also have their own special day to get involved – for businesses it’s Tuesday, 2 March and for schools it’s Friday, 5 March,” she said.
