Residents united on route for City Glider Service

12 November, 2009

Residents of Ryan Street, West End successfully lobbied on safety grounds for no City Glider buses in their street.

Now, they have joined the Gray Road residents’ fight to have the route relocated from Gray Road as it is also not an acceptable route for more than 800 additional buses per week.

Residents of Gray Road and Ryan Street, West End have joined together to have the City Glider Service route limited to Montague Road and Orleigh Street, West End.

“Cr Jane Prentice, Chairperson Active and Public Transport is using the argument that the new City Glider Service must link with the West End City Cat terminal to justify buses in traffic calmed local streets with difficult, tight turns. “ said Cr Abrahams

“I reject this argument. The most direct and therefore the best route is the one proposed by local residents.” Helen said.

“The West End City Cat Terminal is overdue an upgrade. A bus turning circle could be part of the new terminal design.” said Cr Abrahams

“The Lord Mayor and Cr Prentice must factor a new bus terminal into the establishment costs of this service if it is to be the promised “world class inner city transit system, featuring … high-quality stops” said Cr Abrahams

“I support the alternative route and design proposed by the local residents.” said Cr Abrahams.
