Quality Transformation for Woolloongabba is a must
The design of the public realm of proposed new buildings for Woolloongabba needs to be improved if Council is to deliver the stated objectives of the Woolloongabba Centre Neighbourhood Plan.
The footpaths should accommodate deep-planted street trees, generous seating and high quality finishings to retail areas. These areas should extend seamlessly into the public space with public pathway connections through the sites.
“Melbourne Street, South Brisbane should be the standard to achieve. It is a vibrant area with high levels of pedestrians all day every day” said Cr Abrahams.
“The community response to these applications is unknown as the formal notification process is yet to be undertaken but there was general support for high rise development in this area” said Cr Abrahams.
The height of the buildings dictates the number of car parking spaces on site, impact on local congestion and potential support for retail activities at street level.
“Currently local residents complain about the poor bus service along Stanley Street with delays and overcrowding. “
“I believe improved bus services should be place in Stanley Street prior to the completion of these two buildings” said Cr Abrahams.
