Warning on Increased Parking Fines

06 July, 2009

Councillor Helen Abrahams, The Gabba Ward warns drivers to be even more careful about where they park as the Council budget has seen some parking fines increase to as much as $200.

On occasions, residents park on or across their own driveway to dash back to the house to pick up a forgotten item, blocking the footpath.

“The fine for doing this has jumped from $50 to $100 so it is just not worth the risk” said Helen Abrahams.

The fine for clogging an intersection has risen from $50 to $150. Parking in a bus zone is also a $150 fine.

“I am sure that while most of us are awrenot to do this, I would be surprised if people knew the penalty amounts” said Helen Abrahams

Parking in a Clearway will now result in a $200 fine if a parking infringement notice is issued.

Many areas of The Gabba Ward are covered by a Residential Parking Scheme.

“I would urge everyone to have a copy of Council’s Glovebox Guide to Parking in Brisbane in their glovebox. Also to be sure to check the street if you plan to stay more that 2 hours on a weekday within the West End peninsula, Woolloongabba and areas of Kangaroo Point.”

“I am asked to support a review of parking fines by at least 10 residents a week’ said Cr Abrahams.

“I urge drivers to take more care as these new fines are sure to leave a black hole in the weekly budget”

Residents can obtain a copy of the Glovebox guide by ringing The Gabba Ward Office on 3403 2165.
