Peter Marinelli, President West End Traders Association representing a team of committed litter-busters received the Spotless Suburb 2009 Award for Litter Management today.
“The award is recognition of the extraordinary efforts by members of the West End Traders Association, South Brisbane Rotaract, local residents and Council officers” said Councillor Abrahams.
“Congratulations to everyone involved”.
Along Boundary Street, six cigarette butt bins were installed, all storm water grates were cleaned, rubbish bins have been repaired, replaced and painted as part of the project. Most importantly, local traders including staff of the West End Police Station have been encouraged pick up litter whenever they see it lying around.
“Having won the award, it is now important to keep the focus on no littering in Boundary Street.”
People from all over Brisbane come to soak up the laid back multi-cultural atmosphere of West End.
“I am sure they will notice and appreciate the difference in the general cleanliness of the main retail centre”.
