RATES UP FOR BRISBANE RESIDENTS

Council’s budget does not deliver value for Brisbane’s ratepayers as rates are up, fees are up, debt is up and services are down.
 
The Lord Mayor’s budget delivers a 6.47% INCREASE in general rates (not taking water and other charges into account).

Since he was re-elected with his majority in March last year, Campbell Newman has increased rates by more than 15 per cent (8.76% + 6.47%).
 
“Council fees are up by 16 per cent across the board. This includes increases to the sale of animals, grave fees, pool inspection fees, library services, parking meter fees and basic building fees for home renovators.
 

HOW RATES INCREASES WILL AFFECT RESIDENTS IN THE GABBA WARD-

Inflation is currently running at around 1.5%.  However, the average increases in Council rates set in the 2009-10 budget for Suburbs in The Gabba Ward are between 3.5 and 5 times that CPI rate.

What's surprising, is that Ascot has an increase of 2.9%!

The average increase in rates for Owner Occupier Properties for the suburbs in The Gabba Ward.
