Road Closure delivers new Parkland for Woolloongabba

18 May, 2009

Council has released the plans for new parkland at Woolloongabba.

The new park has been created by closing part of the roundabout in Jurgens Street.

This means the space in front of the Ventilation Stack is linked to the existing grassed area around the heritage listed Substation.

“The parkland created is larger than you would think at first” said Cr Abrahams

“I am sure it will become a green oasis in this changing area of Woolloongabba. “

“Local business operators approached me with their concern about the design of the public space in front of the ventilation stack.

“It was not what they wished for their area as there was more concrete than green space” said Cr Abrahams

“Luckily Council officers in the Urban Renewal Team agreed with their assessment of the design and through negotiations with the Clem7 team achieved this improved outcome for everyone.

“The new park is a great outcome for the urban renewal of Woolloongabba.
