Clean Up Australia Day in Boundary Street, West End

16 January, 2009

Councillor for The Gabba Ward, Helen Abrahams has registered Boundary Street, West End as a Clean Up Australia Day site.

Clean Up Australia Day is Sunday 1 March 2009.

Mr Peter Marinelli, Chair of the West End Traders supports the clean up for Boundary Street.

“I am inviting the local traders, members of West End Community Association and South Brisbane Rotaract Club to join in this clean up” said Cr Abrahams

“Littering is a community issue and it needs community action”

“There are too many people littering in this street, particularly cigarette butts and lolly wrappers “

“Dropped cigarette butts not only make the street unsightly but they end up in our waterways and River and harming marine life”’ Cr Abrahams said.

Following Clean UP Australia Day, Council officers will be in Boundary Street issuing on the spot fines for anyone who wants to undo the great clean up.

The week before Clean Up Australia Day, the same officers will be conducting an education campaign in Boundary Street. They will warn people that dropping litter is illegal.

Only after the Clean Up Australis Day will fines be issued.

Anyone interested in participating should contact The Gabba Ward or register on www.cleanup.com.au.
