Helen Abrahams, Councillor for The Gabba Ward welcomes the installation of bikeway counters in Stanley Street, Woolloongabba and on the Eleanor Schonell Bridge by the end of January.
The counters on Stanley Street will automatically record all cyclists using the bikelane near the South East Freeway underpass.
The counters on the Eleanor Schonell Bridge will record both cyclists and pedestrians using the bridge.
‘The bike and pedestrian counts will give Council a good indication of numbers of people riding or walking to work as well as the number of recreational cyclists and walkers” said Cr Abrahams
“I have been lobbying for the counters for many years’ said Cr Abrahams
“I am sure that the statistics regarding the real number of cyclists will support my call for a Copenhagen style on-road bike lane along Stanley Street, Woolloongabba’ said Cr Abrahams
“Currently pedestrians and cyclists are using the Stanley Street footpath. This is not safe.”
‘In the past, counts were undertaken manually at these sites once a year for three days only’ said Helen Abrahams
