More than two hundred and seventy locals have spoken out on public transport issues in Dutton Park ward and demanded better services, local Councillor Helen Abrahams said today.
“I was surprised by the number of people who responded to my “Better Public Transport” survey saying they had been left behind at bus stops by full buses,” Cr Abrahams said.
“Most bus services in Dutton Park Ward start in the Ward and run to the city or local hospitals and shops, but they are passing people because they are full.
“It isn’t residents from outer suburbs taking the seats, there are just simply not enough buses and ferries services to meet the needs of residents in our area.”
“75% - or three quarters - of the residents surveyed from Dutton Park and Woolloongabba have been left behind by full buses.
“60% of people who responded from West End and Highgate Hill, and 55% of residents from Annerley, Fairfield and Yeronga have been left behind.
“This survey is a strong message to Council that we need to improve services, and I will be lobbying the Lord Mayor to provide funds,” Cr Abrahams said.
People surveyed had their own suggestions for ways to solve traffic congestion in Brisbane.
81% (221) stated they believed fast reliable public transport is the best way to reduce congestion in Brisbane.
While 56% (152) put toll bridges as the least likely to improve congestion and 55% (149) put tolled tunnels as the least likely.
“I will bring this research to the attention of the Lord Mayor, as funds and action are needed.
