Construction Update: Work on Wolseley Street, Buranda Woolloongabba Sewer Capacity Upgrade Project – Part A

Queensland Urban Utilities, a division of Brisbane City Council, is increasing the capacity of Woolloongabba’s sewer system to cater for the increasing development in this area.

Part A of this project will involve the installation of new sewer pipes in Wolseley Street, O’Keefe Street, into Fern Street, through Hanlon Park to Stones Corner.

Construction work in Wolseley Street, Buranda, is progressing and work crews will be continuing to construct the pipeline. Boring activities are scheduled to start this Friday 25 June, within the work area located in the middle of Wolseley Street, for approximately six weeks. A new access shaft will be installed at the southern end of Wolseley Street, approaching Tottenham Street.

Work hours will continue to be Monday to Saturday, 6.30am to 5pm.

As this work is on the road, on street parking next to the construction sites will be temporarily removed to ensure two-way traffic flow along the street.

There will be general construction noise, some dust and an increase in construction traffic during work hours. Every effort will be made to keep these disturbances to a minimum.

Traffic control and detour signs will be in place at all times to assist commuters accordingly.

No disruption to wastewater services are expected due to these works.

Queensland Urban Utilities has issued a works notification letter to all surrounding residents.  An updated information script has also been supplied to Council’s contact centre.

All east bound lanes on O’Keefe Street will be closed and the two lanes west bound will remain open to traffic. Local resident access will be maintained at all times.

The following access changes will be in place

Commuters can access Old Cleveland Road by turning left from Ipswich Road into Balaclava Street, and then turning right onto Logan Road (please refer to map overleaf).

• Noright turn from Ipswich Road to O’Keefe Street east bound
Commuters can access O’Keefe Street by turning right from Ipswich Road to Cornwall Street, turning left into Junction Street and then turning right into O’Keefe Street (please refer to map overleaf).

These temporary traffic changes will be in place from Tuesday 8 June 2010 and will remain in place until the expected completion date in late October 2010. Normal construction hours will be between 7am and 5.30pm Monday – Saturday.

Trunk Sewer rehabilitation work - Kangaroo Point and East Brisbane

As part of Queensland Urban Utilities’ commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability and efficiency of Brisbane’s wastewater infrastructure, works will soon commence to rehabilitate and reline the sewerage pipe network in parts of Kangaroo Point and East Brisbane.

Work will be carried out within the existing sewer main at two locations. Firstly, on a small section of Cairns Street, Kangaroo Point, and secondly on a section of Hampton Street, East Brisbane.

Works are due to commence late April to early May, 2011 and will take up to one week at each location to complete, weather permitting. This work will be carried out at night between 6pm-6am, Sunday to Friday.

Possible community impacts may include:

Intersection of Russell and Edmondstone Streets

Traffic lights are to be installed at the intersection of Russell and Edmondstone Streets with construction work likely to commence at the end of October.

This intersection was identified as a Black Spot intersection and was ranted 11th unsafe intersection in the State. This is great news as I have been lobbying for this project for more than 3 years.
