West End unit residents breakfast

Professor  Phil Heywood addresses residents at a community breakfast in Riverside Parkland

More than 100 West End riverside residents gathered for a Sunday breakfast as the first step toward building a vibrant, human-scale community in the former industrial precinct.

Members of five Body Corporates organised the breakfast so residents in the existing apartment buildings could get to know each other and have their say over the shape of the redevelopment in the Riverside precinct.

BARE member objecting to rate rises

One of the most committed resident action groups is BARE (Brisbane Association for Rate Equity).

Martin Trama was captured at a BARE stall at a local market last weekend. Two days later the Lord Mayor introduced rate remissions as a result of the sustained campaign by members of BARE. But BARE members will continue campaigning because the rates remission -- while a step in the right direction -- doesn't go far enough for all unit owners affected by the rate rises for unit owners.

Free Film in Parks

The free showing of Hairspray in Mowbray Park on 29th November
started with a Chinese lion dance.

The East Brisbane Community Centre did a great job of sponsoring the film show and those who attended enjoyed the park setting for the film .

Xmas Sausage Sizzle at Mowbray Park

The East Brisbane Neighbourhood Watch/Mowbray Town group held a Xmas sausage sizzle in Mowbray Park on the last day of Spring. About 35 people attended and some enjoyed the Mowbray Town home brew. I am told it is very good.
